Star Wars is the Science Fiction King
of Movies
I saw my
first Star Wars movie when I was 12 years old. It was Star Wars: Episode 3- Revenge of the Sith. I had no idea what Star
Wars was about, but once I saw the movie, I was instantly hooked into the Star
Wars universe. I loved the action, the humor, and the awesome lightsaber
battles. I learned a few weeks later that this was the final movie in the Star
Wars saga. There was six movies made by Lucasfilm and it spanned over 28 years.
The first movie came out in 1977, called Star
Wars Episode 4- A New Hope. Then in 1980, a sequel came out called Star Wars: Episode 5- The Empire Strikes
Back. Finally, in 1983, Star Wars: Episode
6-Return of the Jedi came out. Everyone thought that those were the only
Star Wars movies to come out. But, in 1999, Lucasfilm came out with Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. After
that movie was made, Lucasfilm made two more movies to complete the saga. The
next movie that was shown in 2002 was Star
Wars: Attack of the Clones. Lastly, the final Star Wars movie that was
shown back in 2005 was Star Wars: Revenge
of the Sith. All six of these movies followed a story about the rise and
fall of the Galactic Republic, the Galactic Empire, and main characters by the
names of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan-Kenobi. Even though the first 3 movies
that were made back between the years of 1977 to 1983, the story actually
starts with the movie made back in 1999, The
Phantom Menace.
The story
starts off with two Jedi knights by the names of Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan
Kenobi. These two Jedi knights were trying to talk peace to a group called the
Trade Federation. These people were blockading a planet called Naboo from get
supplies from other worlds. Once peace talks went south, the Jedi knights went
to the planet below to investigate. They meet up with Naboo’s queen, and they
escaped the blockade to head to the Republic’s home world, called Coruscant,
but their ship got damaged from escaping and they had to land on a desert
planet called Tatooine, to make repairs. Along the way, the Jedi knights ran
into a boy called Anakin Skywalker, who had great skills as a pilot and he was
strong with the force. They take Anakin with them to Courscant, so he can start
his Jedi training and Obi-Wan would be his mentor.
The next
part of the story is how Anakin is growing up as a Jedi, how he is dealing with
his relationship with his master, Obi-Wan, and his new love interest, Padme
Amidala. The main part of this story is how Anakin deals with his emotions with
Padme, while he is instructed to protect Padme from being assassinated. He
develops a deep connection with Padme, and eventually in the end, he marries
her. But, it is forbidden for Jedi to carry attachments, so the wedding was
done in secret. Then episode 3 rolls along.
This movie
is the most amazing and most crucial part in the Star Wars universe. Anakin is
becoming more aware of himself and how powerful he has become as a Jedi. During
the movie, the Republic is fighting a bad group called the Separatists, who is
wanting control of the universe. Once their two main leaders of the Separatists
were killed, the Chancellor of the Republic ordered the Republic troopers to
kill their Jedi commanders. This is shown that the Chancellor is actually
Emperor Palpatine, and he appoints Anakin to be his apprentice, and Anakin’s
new name is Darth Vader. Most of the
Jedi were killed, except Obi-Wan and Yoda. They are the two only remaining
Jedi, their next move was to battle the Emperor, but Obi-Wan had to battle
Anakin. The battle was taken place on a volcanic world called Mustafar, the
battle was epic, trading strikes with their lightsabers, it was awesome. At the
end, Obi-Wan injured Anakin by cutting off his legs and an arm, he was left to
burn, but the Emperor came to rescue him and Anakin was put in a black suit
that helped him survive and to breathe. During his transformation, Padme was
giving birth to her two kids, a boy named Luke, and a girl named Leia, they
were twins. Obi-Wan and Yoda had to separate them because Vader would track
them down and kill them. This is where the movie made back in 1977 starts.
Leia was
being runned down by Imperial storm troopers in her ship, before she was
captured, she recorded a message to Obi-Wan for help, then she was captured by
Vader and was sent to the Death Star, a battle station that can destroy
planets. The message was intercepted by a farmboy by the name of Luke
Skywalker. He finds Obi-Wan and Obi-Wan wants to train Luke in the ways of the
force. The only way to help Leia was to
find a ship and a captian to take them there. They hire a smuggler named Han
Solo, and he took them to the Death Star and the rescued Leia, but Obi-Wan was
killed in a epic lightsaber battle against Darth Vader. Also, they found the
plans to blow up the Death Star, which would help the Rebel Alliance, a group
that fights against the Empire for freedom. Luke blows up the Death Star and we
move on to episode 5.
The Empire
is hunting down the Rebel Alliance and Luke, Han, and Leia have become friends.
Along the way, Luke was told by Obi-Wan’s spirit to head to Dagobah, where Yoda
will train Luke to become more powerful with the force. Also, Han and Leia are
being held captive by the Empire again at a planet called Bespin. Luke for sees
the future, leaves Dagobah, and heads to Bespin to save them. Then, Luke battles
Vader in an epic battle on Bespin, and one of Luke’s hands was cut off by Vader
and Vader tells him that he is Luke’s father. That was a big moment in the
saga. Luke escapes and his hand was repaired. Then, we come to the final
episode in the saga.
In episode
6, the Empire is building the second Death Star and Luke is destined to fight
Vader again. This time, the Emperor would be on the second Death Star. The
Rebel Alliance wants to destroy the second Death Star because the Emperor and
Vader are on the Death Star. They would destroy the second Death Star and win. During
Luke’s battle against Vader, Luke overpowers Vader and is ready to kill him.
The Emperor wanted Luke to kill Vader, to become his new apprentice, but Luke
didn’t. Then he was shocked by the Emperor to a new level of pain, but in the
end Vader lifts the Emperor and throws him down a deep hole to a power source
and kills the Emperor. Vader was proud of Luke and Luke burned Vader, the
traditional way. With the body on a big pile of logs and lit on fire.
This saga
brought all kinds of twists and turns that shaped the Star Wars universe. I was
glad that I saw, Revenge of the Sith.
I just loved the action, lightsaber battles, and everything else. It was just a
great saga of movies.
